In this semester, you will work on several short projects to fully experience the diverse world of interactive media. You will develop skills in both graphic and functional design, focusing on branding and user interface design. Understanding the target audience is key: you will research their needs, create prototypes, and test them to ensure a good fit.
A significant part of the semester is software development. You will transform prototypes into working code and build proof-of-concepts for various projects. For example, you might create a holiday campaign for McDonald’s, where you design, test and develop interactive mini-games, or work on Brand a Band, where you develop the entire branding and marketing campaign for an emerging band, including visual identity, social media strategy, and creating a website. These are just some of the many different projects you may encounter.
Throughout the semester, you will often collaborate with real-life clients and work closely with fellow students. Your teachers will support you through workshops, feedback, and personal guidance.
By the end of the semester, you will have worked on multiple products, giving you a solid foundation as a Media Designer and preparing you for real-world challenges.
Branding
For beginning artists, self-employed and leisure associations you will develop their visual style and connected marketing products.
Create-that-UX
In this project you are going to do research about the target audience and their needs. You translate these needs into a prototype with an understandable, interface which supports the desires and needs of the end user.
Front-end Development project
In this project you translate the designed prototype from project 2 into a working prototype based on HTML/CSS and Javascript.
Individual project
During the semester you also have to work on a topic that really interests you and that you can relate to at least one of the learning outcomes.
Assessment
All these individual contributions are used to compromise a portfolio, that proves your learning outcomes, your personality and is understandable for the teachers to judge.
By the end of the semester, you worked on many different topics and products. So you have a background in the afore mentioned topics of design, user experience and front-end development. This gives you a good preparation for several upcoming semesters like media production, front end development, smart mobile, game design and open learning.
