Industry 5.0

AI & Robotics, Digital Twins, Swarm Computing, Smart Cities, Supply Chain Ecosystems
Content

The Industry 5.0 semester builds upon your Industry 4.0 & IoT knowledge and experience. You will work on large-scale, real-world problems in collaboration with fellow students and industry partners. These are multidisciplinary projects that integrate various technologies relevant to Smart Industry. This requires a professional, structured approach to project scoping and execution, ultimately leading to a demonstrable Proof of Concept.

This semester is ideal if you want to improve your current skills or learn new technologies and apply them in Smart Industry. You can choose your own learning path with a high degree of self-management. The semester includes the following technologies, but you can also explore other areas:

  • Computer vision & AI (OpenCV, YOLO)
  • Autonomous robots & human-robot cooperation (ROS)
  • Digital Twin (Enterprise Dynamics, Unity, Unreal Engine)
  • IoT development (Nordic IoT devices, BLE connectivity)
  • IoT Edge AI (Nordic edge devices, EdgeImpulse Studio)
  • Remote machine control & commissioning (PCL, OPC UA)
  • Blockchain for supply chain management and product traceability
Activities

This semester focuses on learning by doing. You will work on real-world projects with industry partners. Through these projects, you will gain practical experience in integrating different technologies into one complete solution.

During the semester, you will take part in three main activities:

  • Short 6-weeks projects
  • Learn and explore technologies of your choice by applying them to small-scale problems.
  • Industry Group project
  • Apply and improve your skills by working on a real-world research project with an industry partner.
  • Individual project
  • Define and work on your own project or focus on personal learning goals.

You will receive support through workshops on key technologies, expert sessions with field experts and industry professionals, meetings with clients, coaching and mentoring, field lab equipment for hands-on practice.

Inflow & Outflow

The standard preparation semester for this advanced semester is Industry 4.0 & IoT. If you have not previously completed this semester but are interested in the topics covered, you can take the Minor Smart Industry Technologies (see the Free Study Area under Minors).

Upon completion of Industry 5.0 semester, you will achieve Level 3 competencies in analysis, design, realization, advise and management & control.

This semester prepares you for:

  • A graduation in the area of Smart Industry & IoT.
  • Further specialisation in the area of Robotics.
  • Other ICT advanced programs where the gained knowledge and skills can be applied, such as, embedded software engineering, AI, software engineering, infrastructure, ERP and business processes.
