Game Production

Advanced Prototyping, Studio Collaboration & Game Development Pipelines
Content

Game Production builds upon your  Game Development and Game Design experience, elevating it to a more professional level. You learn to work together in a larger studio context and work with external visual design interns. You’ll prepare for a Dragons’ Den event, pitching your game concept to industry experts. This demands a more professional, structured approach and project scoping to produce a vertical slice—a polished yet limited segment of your game—in 10 weeks. Alongside a compelling pitch, a playable demo, and some market research, you might just persuade the Dragons to support or pivot the continuation of your game’s development to an alpha release at the end of the semester.

The semester also offers an opportunity for an in-depth exploration of a chosen topic, allowing you to specialize and contemplate your focus for the rest of your studies at Fontys ICT.

Ambitious students also get the chance to start a real indie game studio, assisted by a network of game industry professionals (restrictions apply).

Activities

In this semester you will work on the following projects:

  • Launch week Project - Strange Devices

You will form your Game Studio group, but also refresh your game design and technical skills in a one-week project.

  • Game Studio Project

You define, design and develop your own game as a Game Studio. The game can either be an indie game studio project (with restrictions) or a game in collaboration with an industry stakeholder or our own initiative Dogfood Studios.

  • Deep Dive

A two-week deep dive into a specialized topic of your choosing to show research skills, and with a focus on bringing something to the community such as a tool, plugin, mod, editor or asset pack.

Inflow & Outflow

We suggest taking Game Development and Game Design semesters before Game Production. Game creation is both technically challenging and reliant on good user insights. We therefore expect both programming experience and affinity with user experience design.

After this semester, you can work towards graduating in the (serious) games industry, general software engineering roles or more user experience design focused directions.
